Dhangadhi Imposes Comprehensive Ban on Sale and Distribution of Tobacco Products
Dhangadhi: The sub-metropolitan municipality of Dhangadhi in Kailali has enacted a stringent prohibition on the sale and distribution of tobacco products, effective from today.
Ramlal Shrestha, the Chief Administrative Officer of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, issued an official notification outlining the ban on the sale and distribution of tobacco and alcoholic products within the city limits. The decision, in accordance with Section 30 (1) of the Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan Health Service Act, 2077, mandates obtaining separate permission from the Sub-Metropolitan Municipality for the distribution of tobacco and alcoholic products. Additionally, Section 30 (2) of the same Act empowers the municipality to enforce a ban on the distribution of tobacco and alcoholic products in shops that sell food items.
The notification explicitly lists the prohibited items, including cigarettes, bindis, cigars, tobacco, sulpha, kakkad, raw tobacco, khaini, gutka, and other similar tobacco products. The comprehensive ban comes into effect on January 15th, 2024.
The official notice warns all concerned parties against distributing the specified tobacco products and emphasizes that strict legal actions will be taken against any violation of the ban. The municipality is committed to enforcing the prohibition in order to promote public health and combat the adverse effects of tobacco consumption in the community.
