Dhangadhi: Foreign Minister NP Saud has underscored that the Khaptad region is not merely a geographical landmark but a cultural cornerstone of the Western region of Nepal.

His remarks were delivered during the unveiling ceremony of 'Drishyama Khaptad Series-2' in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Minister Saud highlighted the historical significance of the Khaptad region, pointing out that in the past, the presence of the Karnali River acted as a natural barrier between the east and west, hindering easy interactions between communities on its banks. However, he noted that contemporary development has transformed this scenario, fostering improved connectivity.

Saud acknowledged the rich history of the Khaptad region, spanning over 10,000 years, characterizing it as a cultural legacy that transcends time. Despite its cultural importance, he expressed concerns about the region's perceived lag in development, emphasizing the need to better communicate and showcase this cultural heritage to both Nepal and the wider world.

Highlighting the potential for development in the Far West, Minister Saud asserted that the region possesses essential elements for growth, surpassing those found in the other seven provinces of the country. He specifically mentioned the agricultural significance of the fertile lands in Karnali and Kanchanpur, stressing their importance in food production. Saud also noted the region's climatic potential, stating that the Far West is among the areas with the highest climate potential in the country, boasting three out of the five major rivers in Nepal.

In conclusion, Minister Saud celebrated the Far West's cultural heritage and unity, urging greater recognition and appreciation for the unique contributions of the region to Nepal's diverse cultural landscape.
