Kanchanpur: The Commission of Inquiry has begun collecting details of the damage caused during the Genji movement in Kanchanpur on Bhadra 24.

Commission member Bishweshwor Prasad Bhandari, along with Kanchanpur Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal and heads of security agencies, has been gathering information on incidents of arson and vandalism that occurred during the protests.

As part of the investigation, Commission member Bhandari inspected the damaged residences of outgoing Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak in Mahendranagar, former Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Rajendra Singh Rawal, UML leader Nirudevi Pal, and former Bhimdatta Municipality Mayor Surendra Bista.

During the visit, Bhandari also held discussions with local government officials, municipal heads, and individuals affected by the movement. Bedkot Municipality Mayor Bhojraj Bohara stated that houses and private property were set on fire and looted during the protest, urging the government to investigate the incident thoroughly.

“If someone is involved in corruption, they should face justice, but here private property was destroyed and looted,” Bohara said, adding that his own house sustained damage worth Rs 6.2 million. Other municipal representatives present also stressed the need to bring those responsible to justice.

Commission member Bhandari said the commission will document the extent of the losses and submit its recommendations to the government. “The state will determine the level of compensation it can provide for the damages incurred,” he said. Local officials and family members of the victims also took part in the interaction program.
