Gaura festival is being celebrated in Far West, today is 'Thuli Gaura'
Dhangadhi: Gaura festival is being celebrated in the Far West today. Gaura Parva officially started from Thursday. Yesterday, on the first day of the Gaura festival, Biruda was kept in a copper and brass vessel and soaked in a ritualistic manner.
The first day of Gaura is celebrated by soaking Biruda for Gaura Puja and is called 'Biruda Panchami'. During the main festival of the Far West, the women who are fasting today will bring Goddess Gauradevi into the Gauraghar. Today's celbration is known as 'Thuli Gaura'. It is customary for women who are fasting to bathe in the morning and bring the gaura into the gaura house in the evening.
Today, on the day of 'Thuli Gaura', after setting up idols of Gaura and Maheshwar, fasting women worship Goddess Gaura with fruits and biruda. An idol of Gaura is made with plants like saun, apamarga, sesame. There is also a tradition of offering a special type of thread, i.e. double thread, worn by fasting women to Gauradevi today.
The double thread offered to Gauradevi today is worn by fasting women tomorrow on the day of Durvashtami i.e. Athawali. In addition, fasting women take Kundsana in the evening. The main day of Gaura is tomorrow, Durvashtami i.e. Athawali day. It has been a tradition for women to take Gaura from Gauraghar to Gaurakhala and worship it.
