Commission summons former home minister Ramesh Lekhak for statement
Kathmandu: The Commission of Inquiry into the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24 has sent a letter to former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, asking him to record his statement.
According to commission spokesperson Vigyanraj Sharma, the letter was dispatched on Tuesday, directing Lekhak to appear before the commission and provide his statement within seven days. The commission has begun collecting statements from political leaders after completing statements from individuals who held leadership roles in administrative and security agencies during the movement.
As part of this process, the commission has sent a letter to the then Home Minister Lekhak and is also preparing to send a letter to the then Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli. On behalf of the government, an inquiry commission led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki has been formed to investigate the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24, and its work is ongoing.
The Karki Commission was initially given a three-month deadline, which the government has recently extended by one month. During this period, the commission has yet to take statements from several political figures, including then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. The Human Rights Commission, after questioning former Home Minister Lekhak, has also begun taking statements from the then ministers who were members of the Security Council.
