259 prisoners still absconding from Kailali prison, security threat remains
Dhangadhi: A total of 259 prisoners who escaped from Kailali prison on Bhadra 24 during the Genji movement remain at large. Of the 665 prisoners who fled, 406 have returned to prison at different times, either voluntarily or after being arrested, according to the Kailali prison administration.
The prison office reported that the largest number of absconding inmates are those serving sentences for drug-related offenses, with 93 still at large. Additionally, 77 prisoners convicted of rape and incest, 47 for manslaughter and abetment to suicide, eight for theft, five for smuggling, and five for human trafficking and smuggling remain unaccounted for.
Other absconding prisoners include those convicted of murder, robbery, possession of weapons and ammunition, fraud and forgery, forest and wildlife crimes, vehicular homicide, kidnapping and hostage-taking, banking crimes, and public offenses.
The continued escape of prisoners convicted of serious crimes has heightened the security threat in the district. The District Police Office, Kailali, has deployed a special police team to apprehend the fugitives.
Authorities have urged the public to immediately inform the police if any of the escaped prisoners are spotted, emphasizing that the security risk in Kailali remains significant.
