Flood in Bajura’s Bichhya washes away 11 houses, damages seven more

Bajura: A flood triggered by Bichhya Khola on Wednesday night has caused massive destruction in Himali Rural Municipality, washing away 11 houses and damaging seven others.

The worst-hit areas are Wards 1, 3, and 5, where 17 additional houses remain at high risk, according to Police Inspector Dev Bahadur Chaudhary of the District Police Office. A team from the Kawadi Police Post visited the flood-affected sites to collect damage data.

In Ward 1, the houses, shops, and farmlands of Narendra Bahadur Budha, Chhanchalal Thapa, Dhansingh Thapa, Sabbale Thapa, Lal Bahadur Thapa, Sujlal Thapa, and Gowtal Thapa were damaged.

In Ward 5, the homes of Nawaraj Budha, Devi Lal Chadara, Birwal Chadara, Ajay Chadara, Hiusara Lwar, and Angbir Chadara were completely washed away. The flood also swept away the houses of Bal Bahadur Chadara, Muga Luhar, Devi Lal Budh Thapa, Bir Bhan Luhar, and Dawal Luhar.

Several other homes remain under threat, including those of Sujlal Thapa, Dhan Singh Thapa, Jabailal Thapa, Dhan Bahadur Thapa, Chandrapati Thapa, Dharmalal Thapa, and Bal Chandra Thapa in Ward 1, as well as those of Une Thapa, Lal Singh Bohara, Dil Bahadur Thapa, Harilal Thapa, Bhaurlal Thapa, Chandrawan Thapa, Ratnapati Thapa, Gobanal Thapa, Dharmajit Thapa, and Laxman Thapa.

The flood also damaged government offices, schools, and public infrastructure, including the Ward No. 1 office, Bichhya Secondary School, a health post, local power lines, suspension bridges, and the Neta and Deusain water gullies.

A team led by Rural Municipality Chairman Govindra Bahadur Malla has inspected all three affected wards to assess the damage and the condition of displaced families, Chief Administrative Officer Kul Bahadur Thapa said. Chairman Malla stated that an executive meeting will be convened to determine relief and rehabilitation measures for the victims.
