Dhangadhi: The 18th edition of the Sudurpaschim Mahotsav, organized by the Kailali Industry Commerce Association, is projected to generate a turnover of Rs 15 crore. This annual festival, held every 22 months, has constructed 500 stalls at the festival venue in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-1, Pashupati Tol.

Pushpraj Kunwar, President of the Kailali Industry Commerce Association, stated during a press conference on Tuesday that 70% of the festival preparations are complete. The event's highlights include local cuisine, a Tharu village, and a commercial agricultural exhibition. Approximately 95% of the stalls have already been booked, and an estimated five lakh visitors are expected to attend this year’s event.

The festival features 29 sub-committees, including the main organizing committee, to manage various aspects of the event. Stalls will focus on promoting industry, trade, and the preservation of art and culture.

Prime Minister's Inauguration Theme in Focus

The festival is traditionally inaugurated by a high-ranking government official, with road decorations and fanfare in Dhangadhi. However, it is yet to be confirmed if Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, currently on an official visit to China, will attend. Discussions are ongoing about his potential participation upon his return on November 21, just a day before the festival’s scheduled opening.

Special Entry Provisions and Ticket Pricing

The Kailali Industry Commerce Association has announced free entry for individuals with disabilities and senior citizens. Students can purchase tickets for Rs 50, while general admission tickets are priced at Rs 100.

Ticket Revenue for Social Causes

The revenue generated from ticket sales will be allocated to social initiatives, with Rs 2 per ticket earmarked for women’s economic and social empowerment, Rs 5 per ticket for a disaster management fund, and Rs 1 per ticket for an anti-drug abuse campaign.

The Sudurpaschim Mahotsav remains a significant event for showcasing regional culture, industry, and agriculture, while also contributing to social welfare programs.
