Instructions for running the medical university at Geta in Kailali
Dhangadhi: Instructions have been given to run a medical university at Geta in Kailali. The Education and Health Committee of the House of Representatives has directed the government to proceed with the proposed Geta Medical College as a university.
The committee has written in the directive, "In the context of the establishment and structure of geographical and thematic universities in Nepal, while appreciating the regional balance of development and the sentiments of the local population, it seems that Geta can be established and operated as a medical university through the specialization of health education. In this context, it is appropriate to instruct the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to proceed with the necessary work."
90% of the physical infrastructure work started with an investment of more than Rs. 5 Arbas has been completed. It is seen that another Rs. 2 crores will be invested.
The committee that visited the site on July 10 and 11 (Asar 26 and 27) has presented to the government the foundation that can be established and operated as a medical university. The government allocated the budget in 2065 BS for the feasibility study and started the work in 2066 BS in accordance with the Development Act 2013 BS on the establishment of the Medical College Structure Construction Development Committee. The infrastructure construction work of the college started from the financial year 2070/071 BS.
Despite confusion and controversy, the committee led by Yogesh Bhattarai, secretary of CPN-UML and member of the House of Representatives, came to study. The said committee has been instructed to operate the medical university after on-site monitoring and interaction.
It is mentioned in the report that infrastructure has been created to operate a 600-bed hospital and medical college in Geta. The construction of 13 residential buildings for doctors, 26 modern buildings, classrooms for 150 students, library, dormitory, sick room, mortuary, oxygen plant building, laundry building, canteen and administrative building has been completed. Road infrastructure and waste water management work remains to be done.
