Ranisain border dispute raised in Provincial Assembly, calls made for security and protection
Dhangadhi: The issue of the Ranisain border dispute has been raised in the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly. Following the Bajura incident, Provincial Assembly members raised concerns related to Ranisain during the zero hour of the assembly.
In the Provincial Assembly meeting held on Monday, Provincial Assembly member Naresh Bahadur Shahi claimed that Ranisain belongs to Sudurpaschim Province, stating that government documents and local land-use records would also support this claim.
Shahi accused certain groups of creating an artificial dispute over Ranisain in the name of a border issue and carrying out attacks. He claimed that the incident occurred due to fears over smuggling and theft following the establishment of a temporary police post in Chhyachaur.
He demanded safe rehabilitation for the displaced, free treatment for the injured, compensation for looted property, and action against those responsible. He also urged the government to strengthen the security system by establishing police posts and Armed Police Force base camps in the area.
Similarly, Provincial Assembly member Juna Kumari Dani said that the Ranisain area has been inhabited by people from Bajura since ancient times and is an important heritage site of the Far West. She stated that the attack on the area is condemnable and expressed the view that Ranisain should be developed as a protected area and promoted for tourism.
