Nepali Congress Sudurpaschim election review program postponed amid lack of interest from provincial committee
Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress’s planned election review and 15th general convention-related program in Sudurpaschim Province has been postponed. The election review program scheduled for Saturday has been postponed indefinitely by the Congress.
Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal sent a letter to the provincial working committee on Thursday informing it that the program scheduled for Saturday has been postponed. The reason for the postponement of the scheduled program was not disclosed in the letter. “The scheduled program has been postponed until further notice due to special reasons,” the letter states.
However, sources claim that Saturday’s election review was postponed after the Sudurpaschim Province Working Committee showed no interest in organizing the program. “We did not show interest in the program. Even the Chief Minister has not responded,” said an official of the provincial working committee. “What kind of program will there be if the provincial working committee itself does not organize the program?”
Earlier, the Congress had also postponed the election review program scheduled for April 3 in Surkhet, Karnali Province. On April 30, Acting Chief Secretary Dulal informed the Karnali Province Working Committee through a letter that the Surkhet program would be organized on April 11.
However, the program that was supposed to be organized in Dhangadhi in the Far West was postponed “due to special reasons,” but no other date has been set. Under the leadership of President Gagan Thapa, the Congress has already completed the election review program in Madhesh, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
The Congress had conducted the election review on April 24 in Madhesh Province, on April 27 in Gandaki Province, and on April 29 in Lumbini Province. Similarly, election review programs were scheduled to be held in Surkhet in Karnali on April 3, Dhangadhi in Sudurpaschim on April 5, Hetauda in Bagmati on April 7, and Biratnagar in Koshi on April 9. Sudurpaschim is the home province of outgoing Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
