Kailali: Chief Justice of the High Court, Surkhet, Hari Prasad Dhakal has emphasized that legal practitioners must remain studious and committed to continuous learning. He made the remarks while addressing the closing ceremony and certificate distribution program for newly-enrolled legal practitioners, held over three days in Surkhet, the capital of Karnali Province.

Chief Justice Dhakal advised legal practitioners to represent aggrieved parties by embracing the role of social activists. He stated that being well-studied is essential, noting that justice sought for clients can be compromised if words are not chosen carefully.

Highlighting the importance of cooperation and coordination between the bar and the bench, he said that legal practitioners should act as watchmen within the justice system. He further urged newly-enrolled practitioners from the three provinces to advance in their professional careers by strictly adhering to the code of conduct for legal practitioners.

On the occasion, Chief Justice Dhakal distributed legal practice license certificates and identity cards to 61 legal practitioners who passed the 33rd Advocate Examination from Sudurpaschim, Lumbini and Karnali provinces.

The program was held under the chairmanship of Matrika Prasad Khanal, Councilor of the Nepal Legal Practitioners Council, Karnali Province. Khanal said the program was organized in Surkhet to conveniently accommodate participants from all three provinces. The training was conducted from Poush 18 to 20.

The training sessions were facilitated by Laxminarayan Dahal, Associate Attorney at the High Government Attorney’s Office, Surkhet; Senior Advocate Shravan Kumar Manandhar; former Karnali Province Attorney Dhurba Shrestha; Vice President of Nepal Bar Association Sudurpaschim Province Siddharaj Ojha; Vice President of Nepal Bar Association Karnali Province Uttam Prasad Acharya; Lumbini Province Councilor Hari Prasad Gyawali; and Advocate Pawan Kumar Gupta.

Tek Bahadur Kathayat, Sudurpaschim Province Councilor of the Nepal Bar Association, informed that such training is provided annually to candidates who pass the examination conducted by the Nepal Bar Association, with the aim of familiarizing them with practical aspects before they begin their legal practice.

He added that similar pre-professional training programs have already been completed in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Madhes provinces. The examination for obtaining a legal practice license is conducted for graduates in law. While the council previously conducted the examination once a year, it has been conducting it twice a year from the current year.
