Police suspect wife planned Kailali man's murder with lover

Dhangadhi: Police have concluded that the murder of Deepak Sunar, who was living at his in-laws’ house in Amravati, Janaki Rural Municipality, Kailali, was planned by his wife Emuna Sunar in collaboration with her lover.

Police have arrested five people in connection with the incident. Those arrested include Emuna’s lover Duryodhan Suvarnakar of Lamki, his friend Ramrajesh Mahato of Tikapur-3, and Birendra Rana and Bhim Rana of Belauri-8, Kanchanpur.

Blood and suspicious materials found in forest

On August 22, at around 2 pm, police found blood along with a stake, plastic bag, slippers, helmet and zebra-saddle strap in Amravati forest. Initially, it was unclear whose blood it was or how the materials had reached the forest. Forensic tests later confirmed that the recovered blood was human, prompting police to link the evidence to the search for missing Deepak Sunar.

That same day, at around 5 pm, Emuna reached the Area Police Office, Lamki, and reported that her husband Deepak was missing. Police directed her to Tikapur, saying the case did not fall under its jurisdiction.

Meeting at hotel, murder in forest

According to police, the suspects reached Tikapur on July 21. That afternoon, Emuna and her boyfriend Duryodhan stayed at a hotel.

Emuna later returned home to Janaki Rural Municipality, while the other four suspects had breakfast at a Gochali Khaja House before heading to Amravati at around 10 pm.

After informing Emuna that they had reached the forest, she took Deepak on a scooty and headed toward Amravati.

According to the preliminary investigation, Deepak was shot with a weapon after reaching the forest. Police said the arrested suspects have stated that his body was thrown into the Karnali River after the murder.

Murder allegedly carried out for money

According to police, the preliminary investigation has revealed that Emuna and Duryodhan allegedly arranged Deepak’s murder in exchange for money from another person. However, it has not yet been established how much money was paid for the killing.

The District Police Office, Kailali, said further investigation into the incident is underway.
