Weather expected to improve in Far-west from today
Dhangadhi: Meteorologists have said that the weather in the Far West Province is expected to improve from today despite the recent withdrawal of the monsoon.
Rain has been occurring across the province since Monday due to the influence of western and local winds. According to Sanjay Kumar Sah, head of the Mahakali Basin Field Office under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology in Attariya, the rainfall is a result of the activation of the post-monsoon immediately after the monsoon’s withdrawal. He stated that weather conditions will begin to improve from Wednesday.
“The post-monsoon became active immediately after the withdrawal of the monsoon from the Far West Province,” Sah said. “The ongoing rainfall is due to its activation.” Meteorologists note that Nepal experiences rainfall during four main periods — pre-monsoon, monsoon, post-monsoon, and winter.
The Mahakali Basin Field Office reported that the highest rainfall due to post-monsoon activity occurred in Jamirekhali, Dadeldhura, with 71.2 millimeters recorded on Monday alone and 74.8 millimeters in the last 24 hours.
Farmers across the province have faced difficulties in harvesting and importing paddy due to the rains following the end of the monsoon. Although the paddy is ripe and ready for harvest, the rain has disrupted the process, said Khemraj Chaudhary, a farmer from Kailari Rural Municipality-7.
“Many farmers who began harvesting right after Dashain are now struggling because of the rain,” Chaudhary said. While some farmers have managed to thresh and store their paddy, most are dealing with wet crops. They fear that the soaked paddy could sprout in the fields if the rain continues.
Chief Sah assured that with the expected improvement in weather conditions from Wednesday, it will become easier for farmers to harvest and import their paddy.
