Elderly in remote Bajura villages rejoice as eyesight is restored
Bajura: Elderly residents in remote villages of Bajura are experiencing newfound happiness after regaining their eyesight following cataract surgeries.
Many of these individuals had endured blindness for years due to cataracts but were unable to afford medical treatment due to financial constraints. However, a free eye check-up and surgical camp, organized by Himali Rural Municipality, has provided them with a second chance at vision. The initiative was conducted with the technical support of the Nepal Red Cross Society, Surkhet Eye Hospital, and financial assistance from the Ruit Foundation Kathmandu, according to the rural municipality.
Seventy-year-old Jayasur Bhandari, a local resident, expressed his joy after recovering his eyesight, stating that he had been blind for years due to cataracts. "I had lost hope, but this free eye camp brought light back into my life," he shared.
The camp, which was held across all wards from Chaitra 20 to 23, identified 103 individuals in need of surgery. Their operations were successfully conducted at the municipality’s health post on Chaitra 15 and 16. Chief Administrative Officer Bhandari stated that the restored vision of these individuals has brought immense happiness to the community.
