Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon kill 16 people
At least 16 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on a residential area in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon on Friday, according to Lebanon’s national news agency.
The attacks targeted the towns of Haruf, Sharkieh and Kafr Sar, while strikes on Kafr, Remen, Kafr Tebnit and other nearby areas resulted in casualties, injuries and disappearances.
Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes targeting Nabatieh city, Kafr Tebnit, Nabatieh al-Faqa and the Rihan Heights.
Initial reports indicate that eight people were killed when Israeli aircraft struck various locations in the district, including the Pabch area and the city’s university, while another attack targeted an area between the towns of Sharkieh and Duir, destroying a house and killing four people.
In Kafr, three people were killed in an Israeli airstrike.
An Israeli drone strike targeting a motorcycle near the Duir municipal building killed one person and injured another, according to the military.
The shelling was accompanied by a series of drone strikes in the town of Jebachit.
The attacks continue despite a recent Iran-US agreement aimed at reducing regional tensions in Lebanon and amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent further attacks on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
