Dhauliganga Dam opening prompts Baitadi administration to alert Mahakali riverbank residents

Baitadi: The sluice gate of the Dhauliganga Hydropower Project on the Indian side is set to be opened for cleaning purposes.

The District Administration Office, Baitadi, has urged residents living along the banks of the Mahakali River to remain vigilant, stating that the river’s water level may rise after the dam is opened.

According to a public notice issued based on a letter received from the District Administration Office, Darchula, the sluice gate of the Dhauliganga Power Station will be opened for cleaning from 6 am on Wednesday, August 13, to 6 pm on Friday, August 15, for about 36 hours.

The District Administration Office, Baitadi, has stated that there is a possibility of an increase in the water level of the Mahakali River during and after the period and has urged people living along the riverbanks to take necessary precautions.

The administration has requested residents to avoid unnecessary movement along the riverbanks, fishing, collecting stones and sand from the river, and other risky activities.

Local levels, security agencies and concerned stakeholders have also been requested to remain prepared and maintain necessary vigilance.
