Five charged in assault on police officer in Dadeldhura
Dadeldhura: A case has been filed against five individuals accused of assaulting Assistant Constable Thaneswarprakash Pant while he was on duty in Dadeldhura.
The incident occurred when an Indian vehicle driven by Rohit Sarki, 22, from Bhimdatta Municipality-4, Kanchanpur, was stopped at the Bagbazar Post in Amargadhi Municipality-5 for inspection. During the check, five passengers, including Vinod Baij, 28, of Ajaimeru-4, reportedly attacked Constable Pant, causing a head injury. According to Inspector Upendra Bam, spokesperson for the District Police Office Dadeldhura, Sarki and Baij were apprehended at the scene, while the other three suspects—Padam Chatout, 26, Subas Bohra, 23, and Jeet Iyer, 27—were later arrested at Bagbazar.
The altercation occurred on Tuesday evening when Pant stopped an Indian vehicle with the number plate GJ 05 RV 8848 traveling from Dhangadhi to Dadeldhura. During the inspection, the group, who had reportedly consumed alcohol, assaulted the constable with blows and a stone, causing a head injury. The suspects are now under investigation for offenses against public security, health, and morals, with their detention extended by seven days for further inquiry. Assistant Constable Pant was treated at Maya Metro Hospital in Dhangadhi and has since been discharged.
