Dhangadhi: The government is in the final stages of considering a pardon for Resham Chaudhary, who was handed a life imprisonment sentence by the Supreme Court.

Chaudhary, identified as the main orchestrator in the killing of seven security personnel and a minor, was convicted and sentenced by the District and High Courts in Bhadra 2072 BS. In a bid to commute Chaudhary's remaining prison term, which is also a former parliamentarian, the Ministry of Home Affairs has submitted a request for amnesty to the President's Office.

Ranjita Shrestha, Chaudhary's current wife, holds a ministerial position. Speculation suggests that she entered the coalition government and assumed her ministerial role with the understanding that her husband's release would be facilitated. Currently, discussions within the alliance indicate that preparations for Chaudhary's pardon have progressed significantly and are reaching their final stages.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as "Prachanda," has engaged in discussions with President Ramchandra Poudel regarding Chaudhary's pardon. It is understood that they have met on multiple occasions to discuss the matter. It is anticipated that Chaudhary's punishment will be waived on the occasion of Republic Day on May 29 (Jestha 15th). Presently, Chaudhary is serving his sentence in Dilligarh Jail.
