7 years since Tikapur incident: civil liberties will be celebrated 'Rebellion' Day

Dhangadhi: On August 23rd (Bhadra 7th), Civil Liberation will celebrate the Tikapur Uprising Day in places including Tikapur in Kailali. The Tikapur incident that took place in Tikapur on August 23rd, 2017 (Bhadra 7th, 2072 BS) has been celebrated as the Tikapur Rebellion and Tharu Rebellion Day and the August 24th (Bhadra 8th) as the Black Day.

Leader of the Civil Liberation Party and Mayor of Tikapur Municipality Ramlal Dangoura will be the chief guest of Thakas Chairmanship and Chairman of Civil Liberation Party Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary and will honor the members of jailed families as guests.

7 years ago, 7 policemen including Senior Superintendent of Police SSP Laxman Neupane and a minor were killed in the protest that took place on this day on August 23rd, 2017 (Bhadra 7th, 2072 BS). Resham Chaudhary, who was found to be the main culprit in the incident, is serving a life sentence.

About 3 and a half years later, in the case related to the Tikapur incident, the Kailali District Court gave a verdict of life imprisonment to 11 people, including Chaudhary, who won from the constituency number 1 of the House of Representatives.

Harinarayan Chaudhary, Rajkumar Katharia, Sundarlal Katharia, Brijmohan Dagaura, Rajesh Chaudhary, Bir Bahadur Chaudhary, Pradeep Chaudhary, Sitaram Chaudhary, Shravan Chaudhary, Gangaram Chaudhary, along with Resham Chaudhary, were decided to be imprisoned. As Shravan Chaudhary was a minor, the sentence was half i.e. 10 years.

Similarly, 12 people including Laxman Tharu, Lahuram Chaudhary were sentenced to 3 years imprisonment, but they were released after paying the imprisonment bail. But Laxman Tharu, who was released after appealing to the High Court Dipayal, demanding to annul the decision of the district court, was also sentenced to life imprisonment. Now he is absconding.

Karan Chaudhary, who was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment, has also been released, while Tahanwar Alijaga alias Nurul Ali Jaga, Bisram Chaudhary and Ramnaresh Chaudhary were acquitted. The case of 31 absconding persons has been adjourned by the court.

The Tharuhat Tharuwan Morcha has been demanding the release of the prisoners including Resham Chaudhary saying that the court has done injustice to the Tharu community.
