Baitadi: The work of the mechanical office to be set up in Baitadi has fallen into disrepair. The work of the mechanical office to be set up in Anarkholi of the district has not progressed even after three years. A mechanical office is being set up in seven hilly districts of the far west with the objective of cleaning the roads immediately if they are blocked by rain, landslide, snow and hurricane.

The Department of Roads had issued a circular to the Mechanical Office at Budar in July 2076 BS to set up a mechanical office at the Road Department building at Anarkholi in Baitadi. The Department of Roads had decided to set up a mechanical office with 22 employees and machine tools.

There is a Heavy Equipment Division Office at Godavari near Attariya in Kailali. There is another office of the road department of the same nature in Budar of Doti. It takes one day to reach the hilly district from Attaria and Budar if the road is blocked due to lack of access to the mechanical office in the hilly district. Chief District Officer of Baitadi, Suresh Panthi, said that necessary steps would be taken for the establishment of a mechanical office. Locals say that if the office is set up before the rains, it will be easier to operate the traffic immediately during the rainy season.

The mechanical office works to open roads that have been blocked from repairing government vehicles. The mechanical office has 22 mechanics, head of office, technician, accountant and dozer driver to repair the damaged government vehicles. Locals have complained that the mechanical office could not reach Baitadi as the head of the office disobeyed the directive of the department to set up a mechanical office in Anarkholi.
