Dadeldhura: Clouds are raging in Dadeldhura today. Chaulo is located in Badal of Ganyapadhura rural municipality-2 of the famous Badal Jant district. On the day of Kattik Shukla Dashami, there is a tradition of night (Ratedi) and on the second day (Diusedi).

The fair is famous in the far west as it is played in the form of devotion to the deity Lata Ganyap. There is a belief that if one worships the deity Lataganyap from the morning of the second day after worshiping on the night of Shukla Navami and staying awake, one's wish will be fulfilled. With Dain, Damaha, Ruising, Bhokkar Bajagaja, playing shield and sword in the local hands, playing chaulo and not being able to chew ganja, Badal jaanti is completed.

Chairman of Ganyapadhura-2, Indra Karki, said that the caste ritual will start on Sunday evening. He said that the fair would start in the afternoon after the god Bhageshwor was bowed down on Monday morning. There is a belief that people will get the vision and blessings of gods and goddesses after seeing the deceitful jaant that has been going on since ancient times. It is customary to bring Devro from other local villages to the fair.

Although Devars used to come from places like Kujakot, Rumayal, Badal and Thapsal, it is customary to bring Devars from Maligaon. As shields and swords are played and danced, Badal's rice has become an identity of the far west. Local produce is also exchanged at this fair. The fair also trades in locally produced handicraft items as well as agricultural produce.
