Dhangadhi animal disease research laboratory assigned role of rabies referral laboratory

Dhangadhi: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has assigned the additional responsibility of Rabies Referral Laboratory to the Animal Disease Research Laboratory, Dhangadhi, to conduct rabies research and diagnosis activities at the national level.

Expressing gratitude to the ministry, the laboratory stated that it will work with greater enthusiasm and dedication toward rabies control in the coming days. Currently, the laboratory conducts rabies diagnosis using FAT (Fluorescent Antibody Test) and PCR methods.

In addition, the laboratory has stated that it has been continuously providing rabies-related consultation services. To facilitate technicians across the country in sensitive and technical work such as brain sample collection, the laboratory has also launched a virtual service, through which services can be accessed from anywhere in the country.

The laboratory has expressed gratitude to WOAH, WOAH Rabies Reference Laboratory Bengaluru (India), DLS, FAO Nepal, Central Veterinary Laboratory, Sudurpaschim Provincial Government, local levels, government and private sector veterinarians, technicians (veterinarians and paravets), and farmers for their support in this achievement.

The laboratory has stated that its next objective is to develop into an international-level rabies diagnosis and research center, adding that continuous support from all stakeholders is required.
