Potato farming reaps profits for farmers of Dadeldhura

The farmers of Dadeldhura involved in potato farming have started reaping profits. Dadeldhura, has always been famous for vegetable production amongst the hilly districts of Far-West.
Prasad Awasthi of Ruwa Khola in Ganyapadhura Rural Municipality Ward No.1 has registered a firm called Bhageshwor Agriculture and Animal Husbandry with an investment of around 1 crore 20 lakhs. He has been cultivating potatoes on 15.26 hectare by renting agricultural land that was barren for years. He has also succeeded in providing employment to around 60 locals of the village. He currently supplies more than 600 quintal potatoes to all the nine districts of Far-West.
Khemraj Joshi, Chief of PMAMP-PIU, Potato Superzone, Dadeldhura said, "The first priority is potato farming. We are emphasising on switching to vegetable farming instead of wheat and paddy. It will help in the agricultural development of the district. Dadeldhura, alone produces more than 10,000 metric tonnes of edible potatoes in a single season. We are also mobilizing assistance such as mechanization facility. Demand for potato farming is increasing. Expansion work is underway.”
