Kathmandu traffic police penalize 101 drivers in one-day ‘Surprise Checking’ campaign
Kathmandu: Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police took action against 101 drivers in a single day as part of a special campaign titled ‘Surprise Checking’.
The campaign, conducted at various locations across the Valley, targeted drivers found consuming intoxicants and violating traffic regulations.
According to Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson of the Valley Traffic Police Office and Superintendent of Police, five drivers were penalized for driving under the influence of alcohol, two for violating red lights, and 94 for failing to follow lane discipline and other traffic rules.
Subedi stated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a punishable offense that endangers the lives of the driver, passengers and other road users. He urged drivers to remain cautious and avoid actions that could lead to preventable fatalities.
He also appealed to passengers to immediately report any suspicion of a driver being under the influence of alcohol or drugs to the nearest police office, the traffic control room hotline number 103, or the police hotline number 100.
