Dhangadhi: The composition of the Far West Provincial Assembly has shifted, with the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) emerging as the largest party, replacing the Nepali Congress, which had held the position until recently.

Following the merger of the Civil Liberties Party with the NCP, the party has surpassed the Congress, which holds 18 seats in the 53-member Provincial Assembly.

Prior to the merger, the assembly comprised 11 members from the Maoist Center, including the Speaker, 11 from the CPN-UML, seven from the Civil Liberties Party, four from the CPN-Samajwadi, one from the RPP, and one independent member.

With the addition of seven members from the Civil Liberties Party, the Maoist Center and the CPN-Samajwadi—previously the second largest bloc with a combined 13 members, including one suspended member—have now formed the largest party in the assembly with 20 members.

The NCP, now the largest party in the Provincial Assembly, sits as the main opposition, while the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML continue to form the coalition government.
