Kathmandu: In the complex situation following the Gen-z movement, the Nepali Army has clarified that it fully adhered to both the letter and spirit of the constitution and respected the decision-making authority of the President and the executive. An article published by Jangi Adda states that the army did not pursue any political agenda and had no intention of interfering in state power.

According to the article, during the chaotic situation that unfolded on Bhadra 23 and 24, the army’s primary responsibility was to protect the lives of ordinary citizens, prominent individuals and diplomats. It states that the army carried out rescue operations, humanitarian assistance and protection of sensitive locations in a restrained manner, without intervening in internal security matters in the absence of an executive order. The article further argues that if the army had been mobilized without authorization, there could have been greater human casualties and the blame might have fallen on the institution.

The article emphasizes that, as per the constitution, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force are responsible for maintaining internal security and controlling riots, while the Nepali Army remains the last resort. This security arrangement, it notes, serves as a protective framework for democracy. It also states that facilitating dialogue and coordination among stakeholders during crises falls under the responsibility of the concerned authorities, while final decision-making authority rests with the executive and the President, reflecting the army’s commitment to democratic norms.

Addressing criticism over the use of Prithvi Narayan Shah’s photograph in the Army Chief’s message on Bhadra 24, the article clarifies that remembering him as the founder of modern Nepal and a symbol of national unity should not be interpreted as a political message, but rather as an appeal for national consciousness.

The article reiterates that the Nepali Army has never interfered in political power throughout history and has consistently supported civilian supremacy during periods of constitutional transition. It also highlights the army’s international credibility through its contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions, asserting that the institution has no political ambitions and has only sought to facilitate the resolution of political uncertainty when it arises.

Stressing the need for coordination and a clear division of responsibilities among the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force to ensure fear-free upcoming elections, the army has reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its duties strictly in line with the constitution.

Concluding with an objective review of the events of Bhadra 23 and 24, the article states that the Nepali Army prioritized the protection of life, exercised restraint and upheld constitutional integrity, emphasizing that strengthening the security forces further serves the national interest.
