Stakeholders discuss effective operation of integrated waste management center in Godavari

Kailali: Stakeholders have held discussions on the effective operation of the integrated waste management center established in Godavari Municipality, Kailali.
The discussion program, organized under the Community Empowerment Program, focused on operating the center built by the Regional Urban Development Project in collaboration with Godavari Municipality.
Participants discussed the current status, opportunities, and challenges of waste management and highlighted public awareness initiatives at the community level to support the center’s functioning. Advisor to the Waste Management Committee, Keshav Raj Pant, emphasized the importance of collective effort, stating that effective management is possible if waste is classified and collected separately at the source.
Godavari Chief Administrative Officer Dharmaraj Binadi stressed the need for strict implementation of legal provisions related to waste management.
Mayor Birendra Bhatta acknowledged that while establishing the integrated waste management center is a major achievement for the municipality, operational challenges remain. He noted that although a private company will operate the center for the first two years, the municipality will eventually take over its management. “Policies, rules, and public participation are essential to cover operational expenses and establish a sustainable system,” he said.
