Geta hospital performs landmark knee surgery using telescope technology

Dhangadhi: In a significant medical milestone, Geta Hospital in Kailali has successfully conducted its first-ever knee surgery utilizing telescope technology.
The procedure was performed on 18-year-old Dinesh Giri from Phulbari, Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City, who had been referred from Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi. According to Geta Hospital Information Officer Nainsingh Karki, Giri underwent surgery to treat an ACL injury in his knee.
The surgery was carried out by a medical team comprising orthopedic specialists Dr. Mohan Nath and Dr. Mohan Chandra Joshi, anesthesia specialist Dr. Ashish Tiwari, and OT nurses Roshina Shahi and Rebecca Bista. Initially advised to seek treatment in Kathmandu or India, Giri chose Geta Hospital upon learning that the procedure was available there.


Following a successful laparoscopic ligament reconstruction, a modern non-invasive technique for diagnosing and treating ligament injuries, Giri was discharged on Tuesday.

Geta Hospital, currently operating as a 50-bed facility, is undergoing infrastructure development worth approximately Rs 7 billion to facilitate the establishment of a medical college. Meanwhile, a bill to establish a Health Sciences University at the hospital is awaiting approval in the House of Representatives.
