Dhangadhi: Over 100 foreign nationals from India, the United States, China, and other countries have been found living in Simli Forest of Ghodaghodi Municipality-9, Kailali, without permission.

The group, identifying themselves as part of the Rainbow Family Gathering, has been residing in the forest for about a week. Reports suggest they have been engaging in unnatural activities while failing to seek approval from the authorities. Acting on complaints, Kailali Chief District Officer (CDO) Gogan Bahadur Hamal visited the area on Thursday along with district security officials and directed the foreigners to vacate the site within 24 hours. Failure to comply will result in legal action as per Nepal’s prevailing laws.

"We received complaints that foreign nationals had been staying in the forest for the past week and engaging in activities of concern. Since they have not obtained permission from any government body, we have ordered them to leave within 24 hours," said Pradya Hamal, an official from the district administration.

During monitoring, the foreign nationals claimed to be nature lovers who have been traveling and residing in different countries in a similar manner. However, since they lacked official approval, local authorities instructed them to leave. While no immediate threats to peace and security were observed, the administration reiterated that their presence without authorization was unacceptable.

Additionally, reports indicate that some locals of Ghodaghodi Municipality have been coordinating with the foreign nationals. On Thursday afternoon, journalist Prakash Mishra was assaulted after covering the story. Chet Bahadur Singh, 40, owner of Srijana Hotel, and Dabal Bahadur Shah, 48, owner of Ajuwa Café, allegedly attacked Mishra for reporting on the issue and highlighting Shah’s involvement in facilitating the group's stay. Various journalist associations and the Federation of Nepali Journalists have condemned the assault, demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice. The Area Police Office, Sukhad, has taken Shah into custody in connection with the incident.

Despite the local administration’s directive to evict the foreigners, Ghodaghodi Municipality has welcomed them, citing cultural exchange as the reason. A similar Rainbow Family Gathering was reported in Ramaroshan, Achham, a few months ago.
