Chure conservation network launches environmental protection programs in Bhimdatta and Bedkot
Kanchanpur: The Chure Conservation Network Nepal has initiated environmental protection programs in Bhimdatta and Bedkot municipalities of Kanchanpur, building on its efforts spanning the past one and a half decades.
The organization announced plans to conduct embankment awareness programs in both municipalities following the Dashain festival. Karan Bhatta, Program Manager of Chure Conservation Network Nepal, explained that the environmental protection efforts will be carried out under the Terai Land Perimeter Program.
In Bhimdatta-7 Haldukhal Chure, an organic embankment will be constructed along the Bhangalo Banana Farm village of Khanyakhola. Similarly, a biological embankment will be built in Bedkot-2 along the Jadepani Patharia canal. To combat poaching in the Chure Forest, Poacher Control Groups will be formed in both Bhimdatta and Bedkot, while EGO Clubs in public schools will be reorganized to raise awareness among students about environmental conservation.
Bhatta also mentioned the support of the Forest Heralu in implementing these initiatives. Sher Bahadur Chaudhary, representing the Terai Land Perimeter Program, stressed that the activities must balance human rights with environmental protection, advocating for the preservation of the forest ecosystem alongside community needs.
Local leaders have committed to ensuring the program’s success. Naresh Bahadur Singh, Ward President of Bedkot Municipality-2, called for improvements to the embankment work previously done on the Patharia canal, while Jeevan Bhandari, Ranger of the Bramhdeb Sub-Division Forest Office, highlighted the program's positive impact on environmental preservation and emphasized the need for its continuation.
