Chief Minister Shah Faces Crisis Again, Directs Civil Liberties Ministers to Withdraw from Government
Dhangadhi: The Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Kamal Bahadur Shah, finds himself in a precarious position as his government teeters on the brink of minority.
Despite efforts to shore up support, Shah's government remains in minority after the withdrawal of support from the CPN-Maoist Center and the United Socialists. In a bid to bolster his government, Shah added two ministers and a state minister from the Civil Liberation Party on Friday night. However, this move failed to secure a majority for his administration.
The Chief Minister appointed Ghanshyam Chaudhary as Minister of Economic Affairs, Khushi Ram Chaudhary as minister without portfolio, and Indira Giri as Minister of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives. However, Ranjita Choudhary, former president of the Civil Liberation Party, issued instructions for the ministers to withdraw immediately from the government, warning of consequences for those who defy the directive.
Choudhary criticized the appointment of ministers without prior consultation with the party and insisted that those who accepted ministerial positions without consultation must step down. As Shah grapples with this crisis, his government's fate remains uncertain, with support from the RPP and independent MPs still undetermined.
Efforts to secure a majority in the 53-member provincial assembly are underway, with Shah seeking support from RPP and independent MPs. However, divisions within the Civil Liberation Party further complicate the situation, as disagreements arise over participation in the government.
The turmoil within the Civil Liberation Party underscores the challenges facing Shah as he attempts to navigate the complex political landscape and maintain stability in Sudurpaschim Province.
