Woman Arrested for Customs Evasion in Dhangadhi, Kailali

Dhangadhi: In a recent development, a 40-year-old woman identified as Taradevi Kami, residing in Dhangadhi, Kailali, has been apprehended on charges of smuggling customs-evading goods.

The arrest took place on Tuesday evening in Dhangadhi sub-metropolis-1 Pashupati toll area, where the police patrol team intercepted Kami with a variety of contraband items, including sugar, beedi, tobacco, goldi masala, betel nut, milk powder, aunty, and other goods. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be worth NPR 33,300, all of which were allegedly illegally imported from India.

According to the District Police Office Kailali, the patrol team acted swiftly upon spotting Kami and promptly took her into custody. Additionally, in a separate operation conducted at Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city-2 traffic intersection, law enforcement seized goods valued at NPR 32,000, comprising onion, sugar, panipuri, saraf, pasta, pickles, and similar items, all smuggled into the country from India while evading customs duties.

In another related incident, authorities in Belauri Municipality-8 of Kanchanpur seized goods valued at NPR 23,250, including onions, warm carpets, bicycles, etc., which were illicitly brought from India via Calcutta, evading customs scrutiny. The police patrol team discovered these goods abandoned and promptly forwarded them to the appropriate customs authorities on Tuesday afternoon.

The arrests and seizures underscore the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat smuggling activities and uphold customs regulations in the region.
