Inauguration of Upper Chamelia Hydroelectric Project
Darchula: The inauguration ceremony of the 40 MW Upper Chamelia Hydropower Project took place on Monday, marking a significant milestone in the region.
Located in Marma Rural Municipality, Darchula, the Upper Chamelia Hydropower Project stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the private sector, which invested in its construction. Following successful testing, the project was officially inaugurated, signifying its readiness for operation.
The inaugural event was graced by the presence of Kiran Joshi, the Chief District Officer of Darchula in Upper Chamelia, and Jamansingh Dhami, Chairman of Marma Rural Municipality. Together, they jointly initiated the testing process last Friday, which entailed releasing water to the powerhouse in Ghattegad, ward no. The electricity generated by the project is seamlessly integrated into the national transmission line, facilitated through a substation located in Shailyashikhar Municipality-1, Walanch.
Notably, the Upper Chamelia Hydropower Project was completed within a commendable timeframe of 30 months. The total cost of this project amounted to Rs. 8.5 Arbas, underscoring the substantial investment and commitment made to bring this hydroelectric endeavor to fruition. With its successful inauguration, the project is poised to make a significant contribution to the region's energy needs and further bolster the nation's power infrastructure.
