Dhangadhi: Shuklaphatan Municipality has allocated Rs. 5 million for the construction of houses of freed Haliyas. The meeting of the executive committee of the municipality has allocated a budget for the construction of houses for 25 families of Mukta Haliya. Mayor Dil Bahadur Air said that it has been decided to spend money from the municipal fund to build houses for the freed Haliya families who do not have housing.

"We have arranged the necessary budget for the construction of houses for the freed Haliya families who have got the 'A' category identity card from being rehabilitated," he said. The freed Haliya family has been provided land for housing at the rate of seven dhurs. A house with two rooms, a veranda, and a toilet will be constructed for the freed haliyas, said CV Luhar, president of the National Free haliya society, Kanchanpur. According to him, an organization called Hewitat Nepal has agreed to assist at the rate of Rs. 150,000 per household for the construction of toilets.

The same organization will also provide technical assistance for house construction. Mapping work for house construction has been completed. The house construction work will start in a few days. A total of 458 free Haliya families who received identity cards in the municipal records have been rehabilitated. The number of freed Haliya families who could not be included in the data released from rehabilitation is 352.
