Locals of Dhangadhi rigged via what's app messages claiming a 25 lakh lottery

Dhangadhi: Ramesh Awasthi of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan Ward No. 7 received an strange message on his WhatsApp which claimed that he had won a lottery of 25 lakhs.  

Awasti received a message from an unknown Nepali number. The message also mentioned the lottery number and Aakash Verma's phone number. According to the message Verma was the person to be contacted to recieve the amount.

"I had heard that this is a scam on WhatsApp. So I was not interested," said Awasthi. Similarly, the news coordinator of Dineshkhabar Arzoo also recieved a similar voice note from +1 (571) 901-2648 number. The voice note claimed that she had won a lottery of 50,000 USD. 

Similarly, Padam Joshi from Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan recieved a phone call on Sunday. "I got a call from a lady who said she was from the KBC central office she said that I had won a lottery of 25 lakhs, I knew it was a scam so I didn't bother to delve into it."

Lately, citizens of different areas of Kailali including Dhangadhi have been receiving messages for lotteries. "They call and say you have won a lottery thereafter they ask you to pay taxes to recieve the lottery amount but they don't process the amount at a go, they keep asking for you to pay taxes over and over again, upto a point where one pays almost 10 lakhs as tax but does not recieve the lottery amount. After that, those involved in fraud become uncontactable,"said Roshan Chaudhary of Dhangadhi. 

Meanwhile, DSP Pratik Bista of District Police Office, Kailali said that fraud has increased in the name of lottery. "There has been a lot of fraud in the name of lottery off late, " we have arrested a few involved in the fraud." He has urged the people of the district to ignore such messages and to refrain from making any payments.
