Raw material and debris from road construction site enter farmlands due to floods in Jorayal
Dhangadhi: The natural beauty of Doti's Jorayal is in crisis. Locals have said that the beauty is in crisis due to the roads being constructed in the Jorayal area.
Local Jeevan Bohara said that a flood occurred in Khairekhola of Ward No. 4 of the rural municipality on Monday. He said that the soil and stones piled up during the road construction have entered maize fields due to floods.
He said that the risk of landslides and floods is increasing every year due to the roads being constructed in the rural municipalities.
Ward Chairman Nandaraj Bhatta said that the soil and stones pilled up for the construction of the Budar-Jorayal road section swept to the farmers' field.
"After Monday's rain, the soil and debris generated during the road construction entered the farmers' field," he said. According to him, the farmers' maize fields were flooded after the debris from the road filled the river. He said that the dozer did not even try to drain the water. "Rainwater washed away the debris. We used a dozer to remove the debris. But were unable to do it because of the water,” he said. According to the rural municipality, other wards are also at risk of landslides. Chakra Singh Adi, information officer of Jorayal, said that no information has been received about the landslide. However, he said that there was a risk of landslides and floods in the area including Ward No. 6. There are many rivers in the Jorayal Rural Municipality area and there is a risk of landslides and floods due to the newly constructed roads.
