Flatland Bakers situated in Dhangadhi Metropolitan Ward No.1 has introduced a new range of bamboo products including bamboo toothbrushes, cutlery, and straws. The café was established in 2015 by three young entrepreneurs, Rakesh Bhatta and Binod Chataut and Praful Lal Shrestha. “We have strived to reuse and recycle waste since the inception of the café, therefore a lot of the interior comprises of things made of recycled waste. While the product range offered by Ecosathi is very similar to our initiative of reducing plastic waste,” said Chataut.

Most of the individuals replace approximately 300 toothbrushes during their lifetime. Toothbrushes are not recyclable because tiny particles from the toothbrush get stuck in the recycling machine. Plastic toothbrushes can be toxic - depending on what plastic they are made of. They pollute our environment and oceans since it does not decompose. More than 12 billion plastic toothbrushes are dumped every year amounting to 120 million kilos of plastic entering the oceans or landfills. “It is essential to avoid the use of one-time-use plastic like straws. They’re used for a few minutes but they impact the environment for a long time,” said Bhatta.

Ecosathi Nepal was established on the 7th of August 2019. The mission of Ecosathi Nepal is to create zero waste in Nepal. Ecosathi Nepal aims to introduce alternatives for everyday plastic products. They have not only targeted the market in Kathmandu but have supplied their products in all the provinces of Nepal. They offer bamboo toothbrushes, travel kit cutlery set, bamboo hairbrushes, resizable bags, reusable cotton rounds, and reusable water bottles.
