202 Prisoners Still at Large After Escaping Kailali Prison During Genji Movement

Dhangadhi: A total of 202 prisoners, including 19 Indian citizens, who escaped from Kailali Prison during the Genji movement are still at large. As many as 665 prisoners left the prison on Bhadra 24 last year after the facility was vandalized during the movement.

According to the prison administration, 463 prisoners have returned to the prison so far. Acting Jailer Basanta Joshi said some of those who returned have already completed their remaining sentences and have been released.

Of the 667 prisoners in the prison during the movement, one had been admitted to hospital due to illness, while another remained inside the prison. The remaining prisoners had escaped from the facility.

The District Administration Office has been urging the escaped prisoners to return to the prison, while police have also said they are searching for those who remain absconding.

Meanwhile, the prison administration office, which was damaged during the movement, has been repaired. A large wall has been constructed for the prison’s outer security, while the contract process for constructing a new building to house prisoners has also been initiated, Acting Jailer Joshi said.

It is reported that prisoners who escaped after being involved in heinous crimes have not yet been contacted. Police said Indian citizens are also among those still absconding and that necessary efforts are being made to trace them.
