Bohara’s Initiative Brings Hope for Electricity in Adarsh-6, Provincial Government Vows Power by Dashain

Doti: Locals of Adarsh Rural Municipality-6 have been forced to live without electricity for a long time. Even nearly a decade after the establishment of the local level, electricity has yet to reach the ward, prompting renewed attention from the provincial government to address the problem.

For years, local, provincial and federal governments, as well as people’s representatives from various political parties, have been making election-time commitments to expand electricity and develop infrastructure, including roads and motorable bridges, in Ward No. 6. Although locals have repeatedly elected candidates and people’s representatives from different parties, electricity expansion and the construction of necessary infrastructure have failed to progress at the expected pace.

Locals complain that despite changes in governments and people’s representatives, the problems of electricity, roads, irrigation and drinking water in the ward remain unresolved. Although contracts for electricity expansion have been signed repeatedly, electricity has not yet reached the ward due to various reasons.

The then chairman of Adarsh Rural Municipality, Tek Bahadur Rokaya, had said preparations to extend electricity to all wards and declare the rural municipality a ‘bright municipality’ were in the final stages during his tenure. Although he had claimed that the commitment would be fulfilled by the final year of his tenure, electricity could not be extended to Ward No. 6.

Similarly, current rural municipality chairman Ganesh Khadka had committed during the election to provide electricity to Ward No. 6 within a year of his election. However, as his five-year term approaches its final phase, locals remain disappointed over the lack of clear progress in electricity expansion.

According to details available on the Election Commission’s website, electricity expansion in Ward No. 6, which has about 2,210 voters, has been a major election agenda for political parties and candidates in every election. However, even nearly 10 years after the formation of the local government, locals continue to live without electricity.

Meanwhile, NCP youth leader Tapendra Bohara has drawn the provincial government’s attention to the electricity problem in Ward No. 6. With the aim of addressing the people’s problems in a timely manner, Bohara held separate discussions with the provincial government’s Minister for Physical Infrastructure Om Bikram Bhat and Minister of State Janaki Kunwar Poudel.

During the meetings, Minister Bhat, Minister of State Kunwar Poudel and leader Bohara held serious discussions on expanding electricity to Ward No. 6. Bohara said the provincial government appeared positive about expanding electricity following the discussions.

According to Bohara, Minister Bhat and Minister of State Poudel coordinated with the Electricity Office, Dipayal, and directed it to proceed with the necessary process to extend electricity service to Ward No. 6 by Dashain.

The head of the Electricity Office, Dipayal, however, said that necessary materials could not be transported due to problems with road traffic caused by rain. Bohara said a commitment was made to Minister Bhat to resume the work as soon as the road opens and, if possible, provide electricity to Ward No. 6 by Dashain, or otherwise by Tihar.

Bohara also said Minister Bhat had expressed a commitment to provide the necessary support from the provincial government for electricity expansion.

Recalling that repeated commitments made in the past have not been implemented, locals are now expecting Ward No. 6 to finally be illuminated through the initiative of the provincial government.
