Marriage Hidden from Girlfriend, Kailali Driver Arrested on Rape Complaint

Dhangadhi: A driver has been arrested in Kailali after a young woman with whom he had been in a relationship for several years on the promise of marriage filed a complaint alleging rape.

According to police, the arrested person has been identified as Asharam Chaudhary, 29, of Tikapur Municipality-2, Bagmara.

Police said Chaudhary had been in a relationship with the 26-year-old woman for several years. The woman has claimed that they had a physical relationship based on an agreement to marry. However, Chaudhary had married another woman some time ago without informing her.

According to the complaint, Chaudhary and the woman continued to remain in contact and maintain a relationship even after his marriage. In this context, the woman alleged that Chaudhary took her to a room at Mohit Manish Nigali Bogtan Hotel and Lodge in Attariya on July 28 and raped her.

The woman filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Malakheti, on August 16.

In her complaint, she claimed that Chaudhary had been promising to marry her for a long time, had married another woman without informing her while they were in a relationship, and had continued maintaining a relationship with her even after his marriage.

Based on the complaint, the Area Police Office, Malakheti, arrested Chaudhary from Chisapani on Sunday afternoon. According to police, he was driving from Nepalgunj towards Dhangadhi when he was taken into custody in Chisapani.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hira Singh Mahara, Chief of the Area Police Office, Malakheti, said Chaudhary was arrested based on the woman’s complaint.

According to him, further investigation into the incident is underway with Chaudhary in police custody.
