Kathmandu: In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, lawmakers demanded an increase in the budget allocated to the education sector for public education reform. Participating in the discussion on the Appropriation Bill, 2083, lawmakers raised concerns over the declining number of students in public schools and urged proper management of school infrastructure, including toilets, laboratories, and other facilities.

MP Narendra Kumar Kerung stated that the budget allocated to the Ministry of Education and Sports is insufficient and called for an increase in facilities provided to relief teachers and early childhood development teachers working in community schools. Similarly, MP Ramesh Kumar Malla said there is no allocation for earthquake-resistant school buildings and school toilets, and criticized the lack of coordination between the government’s policies, programs, and the budget.

The meeting continues discussions on the budget allocation for the ministries of Education and Sports, Youth, Labor and Employment, Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Agriculture, Forest and Environment, Information and Communication, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Health and Food Hygiene, Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration, and Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security, among others.
