Maghi festival to strengthen national unity, says far western province chief
Kailali: Far Western Province Chief Najir Miya has stated that the Maghi festival will help strengthen national unity by promoting social harmony, tolerance, and brotherhood within Nepali society.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of Maghi festival, 2082, Chief Miya highlighted that Maghi is celebrated with distinct cultural and traditional characteristics across different castes, communities, and regions of Nepal.
He noted that in the hilly districts of the Far Western Province, it is customary to give Koseli to married girls during Maghe Sankranti, while families organize various cultural programs, fairs, festivals, and Maghi Milan ceremonies. In the Tarai districts of Kailali and Kanchanpur, the Tharu community celebrates Maghi festival with joy as their New Year.
Chief Miya emphasized that such festivals, observed in Nepal’s multi-ethnic, multilingual, and multicultural society, contribute to preserving, promoting, and developing the original culture and traditions of various castes and communities, while fostering social harmony, tolerance, and brotherhood, thereby strengthening national unity.
“May the Maghi festival strengthen mutual trust, love, and unity among all Nepalis, including the people of the Far Western Province, and inspire everyone to take the lead in the overall development and prosperity of the country,” stated Chief Miya in his message.
