Chaumala seven-a-side football tournament kicks off with 23 teams

Gauriganga: The Chaumala Seven-A-Side Football Tournament has officially begun under the slogan “The Basis of Sports Development, Sports Training is Our Right.”

The tournament was inaugurated on Saturday by Janak Sanud, Ward Chairman of Gauriganga Municipality-2. Speaking at the event, he said such competitions foster unity in the community, strengthen mutual relations, and contribute to physical well-being. He also pledged necessary support from the ward for the promotion of sports.

In the opening match, Sunshine Youth Club defeated Rising Power Youth Club 2–0. Sunshine’s standout performer, Shishir KC, was declared Man of the Match.

According to the organizing club’s secretary, Naveen Chand, Sunday’s fixtures include Betal Youth Club vs. Charidanda Club at 2:30 p.m., Patela Smart Club vs. Vipera Club at 3:30 p.m., and Chaumala Sports Club Seto vs. Beli Youth Club at 4:30 p.m.

A total of 23 teams are competing in the tournament. The winning team will receive Rs. 25,000 in cash, along with medals and certificates, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs. 10,000, medals, and certificates. Additional awards will be presented to outstanding players in various categories.

The competition, organized at the Chaumala Sports Ground, will run until Asoj 13, informed club president Ramesh Sigal.
