Dhangadhi: The biogas plant located in Santoshi Tole, Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-2, Kailali, is now operating at full capacity, efficiently managing organic waste and producing clean energy.

Operated by Dev Training and Management Center in collaboration with the Alternative Energy Promotion Center, the plant processes 30,000 kg of rotting and odorous waste daily. Of this, 8,000 kg of garbage is supplied by Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, while the remaining waste is sourced from cowsheds, poultry farms, and other organic waste producers, said Ravin Kant Pant, the plant operator.

Waste-to-Energy Production
The plant utilizes vegetable waste, food scraps, rotten fruits, cow dung, chicken droppings, and other biodegradable materials to produce biogas and organic fertilizer. Pant informed that the facility generates 3,500 kg of organic fertilizer and 1,000 kg of biomethane gas daily.

Efforts are underway to commercialize the produced gas, with a project initiated in collaboration with the provincial government to supply gas to households through a dedicated pipeline.

Significant Investment and Waste Management Benefits
The Rs. 208.4 million plant was established under the Alternative Energy Promotion Center's "Waste-to-Energy Project". The Alternative Energy Promotion Center contributed 40% of the total cost, while Dev Training and Management Center invested the remaining 60%.

The land for the facility was provided by Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, significantly easing the city's waste management burden. With full-capacity operations, the plant is now successfully processing 30,000 kg of waste daily and producing 1,000 kg of gas, contributing to both environmental sustainability and clean energy production.
