Agricultural Credit Increases in Far West Nepal
Dhangadhi— Agricultural credit in Nepal's Far West region has seen a notable increase, according to Nepal Rashtra Bank Dhangadhi.
By the end of December 2080 B.S., the credit extended to agriculture by banks and financial institutions had grown by 8.08% compared to the end of June 2080 B.S. In the Far West, the total agricultural loans have now reached NPR 15.44 billion.
This marks a significant change, though it is less than the 20.83% growth observed during the same period last year. During this review period, animal husbandry and slaughterhouses received the highest proportion of agricultural loans, accounting for 20.31%. Conversely, the lowest amount of agricultural loans was recorded at zero.
Overall, 10.95% of the total loans in the Far West—amounting to NPR 1 trillion 40 billion—have been directed toward the agricultural sector. Breaking down the investment by districts, Kailali received the lion's share with 66.30% of the agricultural credit, followed by Kanchanpur with 20.87%.
Other districts saw smaller shares: Dadeldhura at 3.46%, Doti at 2.14%, Darchula at 1.83%, Bajhang at 1.71%, Achham at 1.52%, Baitadi at 1.40%, and Bajura at 0.77%.
This growth in agricultural credit reflects the ongoing efforts to boost the agriculture sector in Nepal's Far West region, contributing to the economic development of the area.
