Dhangadhi to Develop 'Green Belt' Corridors Along River Banks

Dhangadhi: The Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city of Kailali has announced plans to develop corridors with 'green belts' along the banks of three rivers: Kailali Nala, Sukuti Nala, and Shivnagar River.

This initiative aims to enhance urban beauty, reduce pollution, and promote tourism. The corridors will include footpaths and bicycle tracks, with an emphasis on landscaping, greening, and beautification.

The sub-metropolitan municipality will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for these developments, integrating bicycle racks and connections to religious tourist areas. In the policy and program for the fiscal year 2081/82, the city highlights the importance of maintaining cleanliness and supporting domestic tourism through these green belt areas.

Tree plantations are also planned to enhance urban aesthetics and environmental health. Although previous policies included similar plans for bicycle tracks along Kailali Nala, Sukuti Nala, the Mohana river bank, and community forest areas in Wards 4, 5, 6, and 13, implementation has been lacking.

The new initiative underscores the necessity of preventing river channel encroachment and community forest preservation, aiming to finally bring these long-discussed projects to fruition.
