Two Arrested in Kailali for Illegal Possession of 10 kg of Salak, an Endangered Species

Dhangadhi: In a recent development, two individuals have been apprehended in Kailali for the unlawful possession of an endangered species of salak. The arrest took place in Bardagoria rural municipality-6 of the district on Thursday, where the police detained the suspects along with 10 kg of Khapta, a protected wildlife species.

Kailali police identified the arrested individuals as 32-year-old Prem Chaudhary from Joshipur Rural Municipality-4 and 35-year-old Parshuram Chaudhary from Bhajani Municipality-8.

A joint effort led by Deputy Inspector of Police (SAI) Sushil Chand from the Provincial Police Office Mahendranagar and the Area Police Office, Sukhad, resulted in the seizure of 10 kg of Khapta, along with the motorcycle bearing the registration number 01008 P 3512 of Sudurpaschim Province.

The arrested duo, found in possession of the protected wildlife species, has been taken into custody by the local police office in Sukhad for further legal proceedings.

The Provincial Police Office has recently initiated operations targeting the illegal trafficking of wildlife, particularly focusing on the Okhetophar region. In a similar incident last December, law enforcement successfully apprehended an individual with the skin of a protected wild animal in the Chure region of Kailali.
