Trout fisheries expanding in remote hills of the Far-west

Dhangadhi: Trout fish has a unique taste because it is reared in cold water. Trout fish can survive in temperatures between zero and 21 degrees Celsius. However, a temperature of 10 to 20 degrees centigrade is considered suitable for its best growth.

Rainbow trout fishing has also expanded commercially in the hilly districts of the Far West. Commercial farming of trout fish started from Gadseri Gad in Simra of Gadsera, Joralaya Rural Municipality Ward No. 5 of Doti and has expanded to other districts of the province. Commercial farming of trout fish has been started in Darchula and Bajura of the state.

Ganesh Dhami, a farmer from Naugad in Darchula, said that he has started commercial trout farming. According to him, there is good potential for trout fishing in that area. Commercial farming of trout fish has been started in Jorayal of Doti, 2 places of Darchula and one river of Bajura in Far West Province.

The state government has also been giving subsidies saying that there is a possibility of trout fishing in the hilly districts of the state. The fish reared in the Gadseri gad of Jorail in Doti were swept away by the flood. Fishing has started again. Sher Bahadur Deuba, Liladhar Bist, Hem Bahadur Bist and Double Tamrakar have been jointly rearing trout fish in Gadseri Gad. Fish rearing farmer Liladhar Bista said that the trout fish were flooded during the rainy season. According to him, there are trout fish in the pond again.

The study also concluded that high-value rainbow trout can be grown on remote mountain slopes. But the farmers could not be attracted towards this. The number of farmers in Far Western Province is increasing. The number of farmers is also increasing because the state government is giving subsidies.

Pashupati Nath, the head of Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Expert Center Bajura, said that the trout fish that had been reared in the district were washed away by floods during the rainy season. Now there are fish again in that place. He said, "Some were dead. They have big fishes. The weather didn't help. Now he has put it on again."

Rainbow trout breeding in Nepal started in 1989. At that time, the Japanese government sent 50,000 fish sawdust to Nepal as a gift. Trishuli in Nuwakot was placed for trial production. Tested trout were first sold and distributed in 1997.

Rainbow trout rearing has started commercially in Nepal after that, but it has been started only a few months ago in province seven. Commercial rearing of Rainbow trout fish is expanding in Sudurpaschim Province. Trout that can be reared in cold and flowing waters are expanding in the Far West.

In Jorayal of Doti, group fish farming has been started, fish farming has also been started in Bajura and Darchula. Trout reared in Bajura and Doti were washed away by the flood. Farmers have started fishing again.
