Nepal-India border will be sealed for 72 hours during elections in Far West
Dhangadhi: It has been agreed to seal the border for 72 hours during the elections to strengthen the security arrangements for the elections of the House of Representatives and the State Assembly members to be held on November 20 th (Mangshir 4th). Chief District Officer of Kanchanpur, Gopal Prasad Aryal informed that this decision was taken at the Nepal-India joint meeting held on Thursday in Rudrapur, Uddhamsinghnagar district of Uttarakhand, India.
A discussion was held between the heads of administration and security agencies of Kailali-Kanchanpur and Indian officials. According to him, in the meeting, it was agreed to increase the security surveillance in their respective areas to prevent criminal activities at the border crossings.
Chief District Officer of Kanchanpur, Gopal Prasad Aryal said. "In the meeting, it was agreed to seal the border 72 hours before the election. An agreement has been reached to increase security surveillance at the border crossings to prevent activities that could affect the election." He said that since there have been complaints of ill-treatment of Nepalis at Gadda Chowki, the Indian Security Officer has been requested to create a friendly environment at the checkpoint. "It was also agreed in the meeting to cooperate with each other in controlling timber smuggling, illegal exports and criminal activities at the border. Due to the obstacles in the construction of the postal highway, the relevant local authorities have discussed the issue of facilitation by conducting on-site inspection."
Chief District Officer of Kanchanpur Aryal, Chief District Officer of Kailali Kiran Thapa, Chiefs of Police and Armed Police of Kailali Kanchanpur, National Investigation Officers, Chief of Kanchanpur Customs Office and Shuklaphanta National Park Office, Director of Mahakali Irrigation Third Phase Project, Surveyor and Division Forest Office of Kanchanpur were present in the joint meeting. Chief among others participated.
From the Indian side, DM Yugal Kishore Pant of Udhamsinghnagar Uttarakhand, Chief of 57 Battalion Sitarganj of Indian Border Security Force (SSB) Anil Kumar, Chief of Police of Udhamsinghnagar SSP Manjunath TC and other officials participated. Nepal-India joint meetings have been held every three to three months for local level problem solving and crime control.
